Living God
you touch the deserts of our land with blossom;
you awaken the rainforests with song;
you surprise the cities with love and community;
and every where we rejoice that the old and forsaken
can live again.
We remember
your people of the ancient-time nourished by this land;
the pioneers who expanded human horizons;
the doctors, nurses and clergy,
the builders, inventors and technologists,
the journalists and architects,
the poets and the dreamers who shape our destiny:
and always you are present
the life of our being
the energy of our action.
We pray
for the parliaments of this land
that every Australian may be recognised
for their contribution to our national life.
We thank you
for those who uncover the past
and tell the interweaving of our human story.
We thank you
for those who link our complex humanity
with this vast, unconquerable land.
We pray
for those who remind us of our history
and ask for them a gentle, inclusive spirit
that welcomes every truth and challenge.
Give us wisdom
in the way we share time and talent
that we set forward no faction or selfish cause
but what is right for every man and woman
to know and to believe without prejudice.
And to you, Living God, through Jesus Word incarnate in human history
we dedicate this Great South Land of the Holy Spirit.
