‘Wisdom’s Children’: Biblical Proverbs and Western Culture
For our November PEACEtalk Dr Ben Myers shared with us some of the work he has been doing on an upcoming book called Wisdom’s Children: Biblical Proverbs and Western Culture. This work explores the ways in which the genre of biblical proverbs has been assimilated and subversively imitated by different writers.
About the speaker: Dr Meyers is lecturer at the Uniting Theological College, Sydney. His teaching and research focuses on systematic theology, but he also has wide interests in literature, political thought, and contemporary culture. He has been a fellow of the Centre for Theological Inquiry in Princeton, a visiting scholar at Fuller Seminary, and is an Honorary Research Advisor to the University of Queensland’s Centre for the History of European Discourses. He also runs the vastly popular blogsite ‘Faith and Theology’ (http://www.faith-theology.com/).
About PEACE: ‘PEACE’ stands for ‘political, ethical, artistic, & cultural engagement’. We are a ministry of St George’s Anglican, Paddington and seek to serve the community by hosting monthly discussion nights with a particular focus on providing a thoughtful interaction with contemporary culture.
