Ashams + Music by Patrik Jarlestam

Ashams, is a collaborative project involving Egyptian born Arabic oud virtuoso, Mohamed Youssef, and friends Ruth Wells, Phillipa Murphy-Haste and Jessica Dunn. Exploring the links that exist between Arabic music and jazz, Ashams performs arrangements of popular Arabic tunes as well as original music. Taking their lead from artists such as Anouar Brahem and Trio Joubran, you can expect to hear intricate melodies and beautifully improvised sound-scapes with the oud front and centre.

The concert will be held at St George’s Anglican Church, Paddington on the 28th of January at 7.30pm.

It is a fundraiser for the charity Hand In Hand for Syria. Tickets $20 each.

Performers include:

Mohamed Youssef – oud

Ruth Wells – tenor and soprano saxophones, piano

Phillippa Murphy-Haste – clarinet, bass clarinet

Jessica Dunn – double bass

Alon Ilsar – percussion
