PEACEtalks Poetry Performance Evening

For our next PEACEtalks we will be hearing from four poets including Phillip Wilcox, the 2016 National Poetry Slam champion. As well as performing, each poet will paticipate in an open discussion about the ideas, experiences and processes behind their work. As usual we will begin the evening at 7pm with a light meal and refreshments. All welcome!

The Poets

hawraa
Hawraa Kash: “Hawraa’s writing transcends the typical and ventures into the realms of her life’s trials and tribulations, hopes and aspirations in a way regular dialogue can’t.”

troy

Troy Wong: “Troy Wong is an English teacher by day, a spoken word poet by night, and an Australian Poetry Slam national finalist forever. When he isn’t poeting or covered in children, he likes to take pictures of fruit.”

brendan

Brendan Reed Dennis: “Brendan loves juggling, likes comedy, and thinks poetry is okay. For the last three years he has been catching audiences off guard throughout Sydney and Melbourne with his multidisciplinary and unique approach to spoken word poetry. Brendan placed third in the 2014 national poetry slam.”

phillip

Philip Wilcox: “Philip, is the current Australian Poetry Slam Champion and a two time NSW Poetry Slam Champion. He has performed internationally, at the Sydney Writers’ Festival, the Byron Bay Writers’ Festival and and recently got back from a national tour. Philip has performed alongside poets Harry Baker, Phil Kaye and Sarah Kay. His first collection of poetry Beetle Prayer is due to be released soon.”

About PEACE: PEACEtalks is a monthly event hosted by Paddington Anglican Church aimed at serving the community by promoting and cultivating deep conversations about life, the world and everything. ‘PEACE’ stands for ‘political, ethical, artistic & cultural engagement’. As such, our events seek to take all of these areas of our shared humanity seriously in a world where such things are often marginalized. We also seek to demonstrate the ways in which spiritual and theological reflection enable us to look at all of these important areas afresh.
