NEW SUNDAY MORNING START TIME: 10AM
Why?
The last few years has seen quite a bit of change at St George’s: new births within our congregations, new faces at the evening congregation, the beginning and steady growth of the Something New community, monthly PEACEtalks and now PEACEcasts, regular preaching by women, and the expansion of SRE alongside an ever-deepening relationship with Glenmore Road Public School and the local community. At the same time beyond Five Ways, together we have been a base for the work of Common Grace, partnered with Aboriginal ministries like Gawura, Grasstree and Spirit Journey, and led contributions in ecological justice and justice for people seeking asylum. The journey together has been exciting, exhausting and at times daunting. We can praise God that the rumour of God is alive and flourishing in our midst!
Earlier this year the morning congregation held a series of consultations, concluding that for our spiritual nourishment and our ongoing future we want to remain distinctively Anglican while becoming more genuinely intergenerational.
What?
As of next Sunday – August 5th – we are seeking to renew our morning service with a new start time (10 am), and a revised format, blending the familiar and the creative. Some weeks will put a bit more emphasis on traditional Anglican nourishment, with a tone marked by reverence and contemplation; other weeks will focus more on creative engagement with a variety of ages, fostering our curiosity and joy.
Pray that during our two month trial that we quickly adapt to doing both well! Let’s be gentle with one another as we fumble our way forwards, seeking to receive and share the Bread of Life in a world hungry for meaning, for acceptance, for belonging.
New service, new time, new faces. Same old Jesus.

Description of terms: The services have nicknames at the moment while we’re still in development. If traditional Anglican nourishment is coffee, and genuine intergenerational engagement is milk & chocolate then we’ve come up with service names that try to describe the emphasis of the week – Long Black, Flat White, Mocha.
Sermon Series: In August we’ll be reflecting on Jesus’s words that he is the Bread of Life. In September we will mark the Season of Creation with guest speakers – Dr Miriam Pepper, Ben Thurley and Jessica Morthorpe.
