Repentance, Racism & Reconciliation: What can Australians learn from the American experience of Black Lives Matter?
Brooke Prentis joins African American activist and Christian teacher Lisa Sharon Harper about her experiences on the front lines of the Black Lives Matter movement in the US and discussing what we in Australia could learn from the movement and how the Gospel might be good news in the face of systemic racism.
While in Sydney Lisa also spoke on: The good news for worried citizens
How do we sustain ourselves when we feel out of step with our leaders and despairing at all that needs to be done in the world? Lisa will encourage us to stay the journey, inspiring us despite our disconnection and distress with the news of Jesus’ very good gospel.
Lisa Sharon Harper writes:
Shalom is what God declared. Shalom is what the Kingdom of God looks like. Shalom is when all people have enough. It’s when families are healed. It’s when churches, schools, and public policies protect human dignity. Shalom is when the image of God is recognized in every single human. Shalom is our calling as followers of Jesus’s gospel. It is the vision God set forth in the Garden and the restoration God desires for every relationship.
What can we do to bring shalom to our nations, our communities, and our souls? Lisa Sharon Harper’s work explores what “very good” can look like today, even after the Fall. Because despite our anxious minds, despite division and threats of violence, God’s vision remains: Wholeness for a hurting world. Peace for a fearful soul. Shalom.
