For our next PEACEtalk Dave Taylor and Byron Smith will both be speaking to us about the effects of consumerism on political systems, ecology and the self. What does it mean to have a body politic based around consumption? Can I be myself without having what I want? How do we live on a planet of finite resources when we are taught that infinite consumption makes the world go round? Come to think of it- why do we talk about the world in terms of resources anyway? Join us as we explore these questions and more and think about how the season of Advent may challenge the central story of our culture.
About PEACEtalks: PEACE stands for ‘political, ethical, artistic and cultural engagement’. As such, PEACEtalks seeks to provide a context where these things can be engaged with in an open and informed way in the context of community and hospitality. But ‘PEACE’ is not just a clever acronym. Peace is a core conviction that we seek to embrace and embody in its deepest sense, a way of togetherness that embodies wholeness and harmony.
At the moment we run monthly events on the evening of the first Saturday of each month in the rectory of Saint George’s Anglican Church, Paddington.
When: 7 pm, 6th of December
