Speaking this Sunday on the parable of the Good Samaritan, our Honorary Assistant Minister Sue Emeleus mentioned the challenges faced by women and child survivors of war and rape trauma in places like the Democratic Republic of Congo. There will be a concert on Sunday 18 July raise funds for two nurses to accompany St Mark’s member Dr Barbara Ferguson as she again visits and runs workshops at Heal Africa Hospital in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo.
This Go Congo Concert will include a diverse collection of musicians and singers. Performers at the concert include Solidarity (a cappella world music choir), Vic Playford and his guitar, a Congolese item and an item by SMACKS. The nurses, Zawadi and Deborah, originally coming to Australia as refugee children, will be available to chat with after the concert. The workshops at the hospital will assist staff working with women and child survivors of war and rape trauma. An old fashion afternoon tea follows. Donation $10 pp, children free. More details are available on the St Mark’s South Hurstville web site.
