Update: The Advent Travellers safely made their way back to St George’s on Christmas Eve. Sign up early next year to be part of the journey!
Advent is the season where we honour and prepare to welcome the coming of Jesus into our midst, and the journey that his parents took to Bethlehem. As they sought hospitality on their journey, so we participate in that journey by welcoming Mary and Joseph and those who bring them, into our homes. There is a one or two minute ritual of welcome, unless you are, say, musical and wish to add to the event. Make room for Mary and Joseph on a small table, on a shelf or piano, as they move from home to home over Advent on their journey to Saint George’s on Christmas Eve. The hospitality you show to fellow parishioners can be small (a cup of tea, a glass of wine), morning or afternoon tea, supper or a meal. It is a busy time of year and you do what you can. There is no pressure, just the opportunity to extend hospitality to, and get to know the stranger who is in our midst, just that little bit more.
